In less than 2 weeks a bunch of people from the internet will be meeting in Nashville to
cause chaos
look at cars and hang out. Since we seem to have a pretty sizable crowd, I am curious to see how far some of you will be driving. I’m at almost 6 hours and 20 minutes, but I don’t think I am the farthest away. So how far are you driving to meet a bunch of strangers?

Not for the oppomeet but around the same time as the meet this will be my summer road trip with my wife
Doing it all in one go too.

13 minutes.

You think you’ll do it all in one go? Or are you planning on taking a break or two?

Gonna have to stop for some McDonalds chocolate milk and mcgriddle, otherwise i’ll probably starve.

I have 3 people I met on the internet crashing at my house.

It would be 2:45 if I could make it

We’re coming from Washington DC.

Three days, 778 miles, no highways.
But it will be a week later. Bike trip.

I don’t know how I’m gonna get the smell of an E90 M3 and Focus ST off of my driveway.

You’re not making them street park? You’re crazy I tell ya

I think some of the people that did the EurOppoMeet this year did quite a distance to get to Wales.

Our street doesn’t have room for street parking sadly. At least one of the cars is going into the garage to protect it from them though.

Wow, I thought my drive to PNW Oppo was far. (Tack on another half hour each way for border waits)

make sure you do a pre-trip inspection first.

Just for fun I punched in our route from Illinois to North Carolina and clicked avoid highways and it adds another 8 hours to our travel time lol. As fun as that would be I think we will take the highways

Long.
It’s tempting to go down through Arkansas, but that would require going through Oklahoma.

Strangers?
If by strangers you mean someone I spent 19 hours in a car road tripping with. My drive is going to be around 5.5 hours, it was around 7 last year.

Excited to meet ya’ll. Heard you met one of my college buddies. Danget Bob

That’s why we’re only taking three days to do it. :)

After having driven through OK, I completely agree with that sentiment. The roads suck, the speed limits are low, there are tolls everywhere and you can only get 91 octane. I hate that state.

Mrs McMike thinks it weird when I go to car shows and lunch afterwards with people I meet on the internet.
Letting those weirdos stay at the house? FAT CHANCE. :)

I should be about 6.5 hours from Charlotte, but I’m going to take a sliiiight detour to visit Deal’s Gap, which Google says would make it 7:40 . . . or longer, if I decide to go back and forth across the state line several times.
So, at least if the internet strangers don’t work out, I’ve had a fun drive. Plus I’m going to visit a known friend while I’m in Nashville.

exactly this actually
![]() 05/21/2018 at 12:42 |

Could be worse, I guess

Imagine meeting one in Boston, then driving back the 2 days back to Nashville with your new car and the person.

ORLG not only is letting us stay but also brought us in on a random other night when our Airbnb was not as advertised and put us in a place where I’m pretty sure my 2 month old FoST would’ve been gone in the morning. I would’ve murdered him the first time, but his wife and my girlfriend need to be friends still so that wouldn’t work.

That’s half the fun.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 14:28 |

I mean you could at least humor me and drive around a bit.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 14:30 |

Definitely have me beat. Are yall riding together or separate?
![]() 05/21/2018 at 14:31 |
|
That’s cool. There’s not much between me and Nashville aside from Birmingham so probably won’t be doing any side quests.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 14:32 |
|
I thought you weren’t going to be able to make it?
![]() 05/21/2018 at 14:34 |

How bad is traffic through Louisville? Haven’t been there before.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 14:44 |

Nah, that had to be someone else. Jacob basically told me I had to come.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 15:12 |

Not going through Deal’s Gap?
![]() 05/21/2018 at 15:27 |

Ok may have been. I’ve read through the replies so many different times that I can’t remember who was and wasn’t going to be able to make it.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 15:28 |

Maybe on the way home, I don’t have the whole day off and I want to get there at a reasonable hour.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 15:41 |

We’re taking our own cars, but will be traveling together. Pretty much exactly a year ago we did a trip to Arkansas together, had some walkie talkies in the car to help pass the time.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 15:48 |
|
We can only get 91 here too.
![]() 05/21/2018 at 16:15 |

Obvious rush hour traffic, but never a big deal. The worst was when I drove from sw Indiana (Co-op job) to Cincinnati or home since I crossed the whole city, but still not bad. Just as you get downtown you go south on 65 so it’s never an issue going to nashville

That’s cool. Better than having to keep calling each other.
